VII The Wall

Previous

With nerves of steel but otherwise unsecured, they climb the wall - in hindsight it seems to Reinhold to have been sheer madness: "That was sheer madness".

And then the accident. Reinholds brother Reinhard and the mountain engineer Rijnheer lose control of their gloves. In slow motion Reinhold sees the events in his mind's eye over and over:

"At first I didn't understand what was happening, but I took the pictures anyway, right? And then they were, like, suddenly gone. 'Two hungry mouths gone, we don't have enough food anyway', I yelled, but nobody really laughed. I guess the other's were, like, really hungry or something."

We'd really like to relieve the tension here, write "Reinhard and Rijnheer today own and operate a banana ripery around Duisburg" or something similar. But nobody ever heard from the two again. Maybe they are dead.
